Approaching the National Shrine DC

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is the largest Catholic shrine in North America. The size is intimidating once you get close. We arrived on a rainy day which within the hour turned to snow. The sight of the steps gave pause, but there is a ground level door where you are encouraged to enter. This makes the basilica handicap friendly. Free tours are available (there is an elevator) and recommended as a docent is available. The tour lasts about an hour, but you can also self tour.

It is beautiful. Many of the pictures you see here will be in Jim Rode's Friday Night Art Collection. #fridaynightart

The images of the Basilica (exterior only) have been set up for 20x30 size for ink-fused to aluminum. Ready for display with a built in wall hanger. $1695

A metal 8x10 version is $85 for preview to purchase the large version. Previews are created on a no return or refund basis at cost. The 8x10 version has no hanger.

There are five domes of art and mosaics inside the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. This iPhone capture is of a spotlight shining down. It's light illuminates the stones of the dome. #fridaynightart
